Getting Here
The Kodiak Wilderness Lodge is located on the east side of Kodiak Island, near the head of Ugak Bay.
Ugak Bay is a picturesque, well-protected body of water located in the Kodiak Island Archipelago, off the southern coast of Alaska. It is surrounded by rugged mountains, dense forests, and a diverse array of wildlife. The bay has been an important resource for the Sugpiaq Alutiiq people for thousands of years, providing them with an abundance of fish, shellfish, and other marine life. In the early 20th century, commercial fishing began to thrive in the area, with salmon, halibut, and crab being some of the most sought-after catches.
Today, there is a small community of remote cabins where people enjoy the summer season. Visitors can spot bears, bald eagles, sea otters, and seals, as well as enjoy the scenic beauty of the bay and its surroundings. It is an exceptionally well-positioned remote location in Kodiak due to its protected waters to prevent sea-sickness and weather limitations on fishing, as well as itβs proximity to the road system which allows guests to come and leave more reliably than other remote lodges on the island. In cases of weather delays for float plane charters, we can ensure guests arrive back on the road system by boat to avoid travel schedule complications with ease.
